ABSTRACT

RESUMEN La formación integral de los universitarios, a través de los diferentes programas, los cursos propios, optativos / electivos, con el macrocurrículo, el microcurrículo y las diferentes mallas de formación de cada carrera, garantizan un profesional preparado, con amplios recursos para su desempeño posterior. Los cursos propios están bien establecidos por las asignaturas rectoras en cada semestre, y los optativos / electivos pueden ser preestablecidos en el colectivo de asignatura. El objetivo principal es enriquecer el acervo de cada educando. En la presente comunicación se destacó la importancia de la formación de promotores de salud en los estudiantes de las Ciencias Médicas a través de los cursos optativos / electivos. Se aspira a una formación integral del educando que se encuentra en las universidades cubanas, y que el conocimiento científico les permita, una vez graduados, brindar una atención holística a la población en el radio de acción que les corresponda.


ABSTRACT Comprehensive training of university students through the different programs, their own optional or elective courses, the macro-curriculum, the micro-curriculum and the different training curriculums of each career guarantee well-prepared professionals, with ample resources for their subsequent performance. The own courses are well-established by the guiding subjects in each semester, and the optional or elective ones can be pre-established in the subject group. The main objective is to enrich the individual wealth of each student. In this communication, the importance of training health promoters in Medical Sciences students through the optional or elective courses was highlighted. A comprehensive training of the student found in Cuban universities is aspired, as well as that their scientific knowledge, once they graduate, allows them to provide a holistic attention to the population in the radius of action that corresponds to them.

ABSTRACT

Astrocyte elevated gene-1 (AEG-1) is a positive regulator of tumorigenesis in human cancer cells. Human AEG-1 gene is located in chromosome 8q22 having 12 exons/11 introns. Chromosome 8q22 is known to be a hot spot for genomic alterations in several cancerous cells involving HCC. The aim of the study was assess association between the negative regulatory region of AEG-1 promoter mutations and genetic susceptibility to hepatocellular carcinoma. The negative regulatory region of the human AEG-1 promoter was evaluated in a total of 50 Iranian hepatocellular carcinomas (HCC) patients. For investigating AEG-1 promoter polymorphisms the PCR-sequencing method was used. In this study was found two new mutation C>T (-633) and G>C (-660) in the patient group. But it was not revealed the statistically significant association between any mutations in this region of the AEG-1 promoter with HCC susceptibility. According to presented data, we can say that the negative regulatory region of the AEG-1 promoter mutations did not exihibit significant relevance with hepatocellular carcinoma. We recommend further studies on the efficacy of the AEG-1 promoter in therapeutic targeting of the HCC.


Resumo: O gene AEG-1 é um regulador positivo da tumorigênese em células cancerígenas humanas. O gene humano AEG-1 está localizado no cromossomo 8q22 com 12 exons/11 introns. O cromossomo 8q22 é conhecido por ser um hotspot para alterações genômicas em várias células cancerígenas que envolvem o CHC. O objetivo do estudo foi avaliar a associação entre a região reguladora negativa das mutações do promotor AEG-1 e a suscetibilidade genética ao carcinoma hepatocelular. A região reguladora negativa do promotor humano AEG-1 foi avaliada em um total de 50 pacientes iranianos com carcinomas hepatocelulares (CHC). Para investigar os polimorfismos do promotor AEG-1, utilizou-se o método de sequenciação por PCR. Neste estudo foram encontradas duas novas mutações C>T (-633) e G>C (-660) no grupo de pacientes. Mas não foi revelada a associação estatisticamente significante entre quaisquer mutações nessa região do promotor AEG-1 com suscetibilidade ao CHC. De acordo com os dados apresentados, podemos dizer que a região reguladora negativa das mutações do promotor AEG-1 não demonstrou relevância significativa com o carcinoma hepatocelular. Recomendamos estudos adicionais sobre a eficácia do promotor AEG-1 no direcionamento terapêutico do CHC.

RESUMEN Se aislaron 120 morfotipos bacterianos de intestino de tilapia y se seleccionaron según su actividad antibacteriana contra patógenos como Aeromonas hydrophila, Streptococcus agalactiae y Edwardsiella tarda, su capacidad de adherencia a mucus intestinal y cinética de crecimiento. Las bacterias seleccionadas se identificaron mediante secuenciación de 16S rRNA y se identificaron como Exigobacterium sp. l9, Enterococcus faecalis I15 y Myroides odoratimimus l19. Además, se evaluó su efecto in vivo sobre el crecimiento de los peces, mediante su adición al alimento de juveniles de Oreochromis niloticus (106 UFC / g, por 15 días). Se determinó la supervivencia luego de un desafío experimental con Edwardsiella tarda por inyección intraperitoneal (100 µL 105 UFC / mL). Las tres bacterias seleccionadas incrementaron la tasa de crecimiento específico, redujeron la mortalidad de los peces durante el desafío experimental con E. tarda y no causaron mortalidad durante la adición en el alimento. Los efectos positivos in vivo se relacionan posiblemente con actividad in vitro; sin embargo, por motivos de bioseguridad se recomienda efectuar estudios posteriores a Exigobacterium sp. l9y E. faecalis I15 dado que se han reportado miembros de este género como causantes de mortalidad en peces, mientras que en el caso de M. odoratimimus l19, es necesario efectuar futuros estudios para verificar su actividad positiva a mayor escala productiva.


ABSTRACT 120 bacteria were isolated from tilapia intestine and screened according to the antibacterial activity against pathogens such as Aeromonas hydrophila, Edwardsiella tarda and Streptococcus agalactiae, the ability to adhere to intestinal mucus and growth kinetics. The selected bacteria were identified by 16S rRNA sequencing of and were identified as Exigobacterium sp. I9, Enterococcus faecalis l15 and Myroides odoratimimus l19. Furthermore, the in vivo effect on fish growth was assessed by the addition of selected bacteria to juvenile Oreochromis niloticus feed (106 CFU / g, for 15 days). Survival was also determined after a challenge by intraperitoneal injection of E. tarda (100 µL of 105 UFC / mL). The three selected bacteria increased the specific growth rate, reduced mortality of fish during the experimental challenge with E. tarda and did not cause mortality during the addition in the feed. The positive effects observed in vivo are possibly associated with in vitro activity; however, for biosafety reasons, it is recommended that further studies of Exigobacterium sp. l9 and E. faecalis l15 may be carried out since this genus have been reported of as causative agents of fish mortality, whereas in the case of M. odoratimimus l19, verification of positive effects at a higher production scales is desirable.

ABSTRACT

O uso de antibióticos como aditivo melhorador de desempenho tem sido proibido pela possibilidade de favorecer o desenvolvimento de resistência bacteriana em humanos. Com isso, o objetivo da realização do trabalho foi avaliar o efeito da suplementação do prebiótico mananoligossacarídeo na alimentação de codornas japonesas e europeias em crescimento. Foram usadas 240 codornas de cada linhagem (Coturnix japonica e Coturnix coturnix) distribuídas em delineamento experimental inteiramente casualizado e arranjados em fatorial 2 x 4 (genótipos x níveis de suplementação de prebiótico) e seis repetições de dez aves. As codornas foram alimentadas com ração basal suplementadas com 0,0; 0,05; 0,10 e 0,15% de mananoligossacarídeo em substituição ao inerte. Não houve efeito de interação para nenhuma das variáveis avaliadas (P>0,05). Os níveis de suplementação do prebiótico não afetaram o desempenho e as características de carcaça (P>0,05) das codornas. O consumo de ração não foi alterado entre os genótipos (P>0,05), por outro lado, as codornas europeias apresentaram maior ganho de peso e melhor valor de conversão alimentar (P≤0,05) que as codornas japonesas. Os genótipos comerciais de codornas diferiram nas características de carcaça (P≤0,05). Recomenda-se formular rações sem suplementação do prebiótico mananoligossacarídeo para codornas japonesas e europeias de 21 a 42 dias de idade em ambiente considerando limpo.(AU)


The use of antibiotics as a feed additive promoting performance has been prohibited due to the possibility of favoring bacterial resistance in humans. Thus, the purpose of this paper was to assess the effect of mannan oligosaccharides supplementation in prebiotic feed provided to Japanese and European quails during the growth stage. A total of 240 quails for each strain (Coturnix japonica and Coturnix coturnix) were used, distributed in a completely randomized design and arranged in a 2 x 4 (genotypes x prebiotic supplementation levels) matrix, with six replications containing ten birds each. The quails were fed with basal feed supplemented with 0.0; 0.05; 0.10 and 0.15% mannan oligosaccharide prebiotic. There was no interaction effect for any of the assessed variables (P> 0.05). The prebiotic supplementation levels did not affect performance and carcass characteristics (P> 0.05) of the quails. Feed intake was not changed between genotypes (P> 0.05); on the other hand, European quails showed greater weight gain and better feed conversion rate (P≤ 0.05) than Japanese quails. Commercial genotypes differed inn carcass characteristics (P≤ 0.05). It is recommended that feeds are formulated without supplementation of mannan oligosaccharides prebiotic for Japanese and European quails aged 21 to 42-days' old in production environment that are considered clean.(AU)


El uso de antibióticos como aditivo de mejora de rendimiento ha sido prohibido por la posibilidad de promover el desarrollo de resistencia bacteriana en humanos. Por lo tanto, el propósito de llevar a cabo este estudio fue evaluar el efecto de la suplementación del prebiótico mananoligosacáridos en la alimentación de codornices japonesas y europeas en crecimiento. Se usaron 240 codornices de cada linaje (Coturnix japonica y Coturnix coturnix) distribuidas en un diseño completamente aleatorizado y dispuestos en factorial 2 x 4 (genotipos x niveles de suplementación prebiótica) y seis repeticiones de diez aves. Las codornices fueron alimentadas con la dieta basal suplementadas con 0,0; 0,05; 0,10 y 0,15% mananoligosacárido en sustitución al inerte. No hubo efecto de interacción para ninguna de las variables evaluadas (P >0,05). Los niveles de suplementación del prebiótico no afectaron el rendimiento y las características del caparazón (P >0,05) de las codornices. El consumo de alimento no se cambió entre los genotipos (P > 0,05), por otro lado, las codornices Europeas presentaron mayor ganancia de peso y mejor valor de conversión del alimento (p≤ 0.05) que las codornices japonesas. Los genotipos comerciales de codornices difirieron en las características del caparazón (p≤ 0.05). Se recomienda formular dietas sin suplementación del prebiótico mananoligosacáridos para codornices japonesas y europeas de 21 a 42 días de edad en ambiente considerado limpio.(AU)

Objective To explore the causes of Fra-1 high expression in breast cancer cells and molecular mechanism of Fra-1 high transcription activity .Methods Two human breast cancer cell lines MDA231 and MCF-7 and 1 human umbilical vein endothelial cell ECV304 were selected as the research objects .Real time fluorescent quantitative reverse transcription -polymerase chain re-action and Western blotting were used to detect the Fra-1 mRNA and protein expression ;the Fra-1 dual fluorescence reporter vector was constructed ,and the Fra-1 promotor transcription activity was detected ;the Fra-1 promotor short-cut reporter vector and mutation reporter vector at related loci were constructed ,and the transcription activity of short-cut reporter vector and mutation reporter vector was detected ;the binding situation of specific probe marked by biotin with activator protein-1(AP1) was observed by using the gel migration block test .Results The relative expression of mRNA and protein and promotor whole length reporter vector transcription activity of Fra-1 in human breast cancer cell lines MDA231 and MCF-7 cells were higher than that in human umbilical vein endothelial cell MCV304 ,the difference was statistically significant (P<0 .05);in constructed series Fra-1 promotor shortcut reporter vectors ,only the activity of pGL3B-256 was obviously decreased ,the difference was statistically significant (P<0 .05);the activity of AP1 mutation reporter vector pGL3B-M2 and SP1 and AP1 dual mutation reporter vector pGL3B-M3 was significantly lower than that of wild repoter vector pGL 3B-M1 ,the difference was statistically significant (P<0 .05);the gel migration block test found that the binding of specific probe marked by biotin with AP1 had obvious blocking effect .Conclusion In in vitro cultured breast cancer cell lines MDA231 and MCF-7 ,the trans-acting factor AP1 up-regulates its expression by activating Fra-1 gene promoter .

El conocimiento pleno de los promotores determina el éxito en la obtención de nuevos cultivares de plantas a través de técnicas biotecnológicas, ya que dicha secuencia del ADN regula la transcripción de otras regiones adyacentes o cercanas, encontrándose los siguientes promotores: constitutivos, tejido-específicos o estadio-específicos, inducibles y sintéticos. En esta revisión se resume de manera precisa los conceptos, ventajas y limitaciones de los distintos tipos de promotores, con ejemplos claros de ello.


Full knowledge of promoters determines success in obtaining new plant cultivars through biotechnology techniques. This DNA sequence regulates the transcription of adjacent or nearby regions, which are mainly constitutive, tissue-specific or stage-specific, inducible and synthetic. This review summarizes the precise concepts, advantages and limitations of different types of promoters, including clear examples of them.

ABSTRACT

Globally, about 50% of liver cancer originates as a result of long term infection with hepatitis B virus (HBV), and some genotypes and mutations have been associated with an increased severity of infection. The aim of this study was to evaluate the genetic diversity of HBV in patients from Venezuela, with chronic infection, cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) and to compare the occurrence of mutations in all patient groups. Samples from patients with different pathologies of the liver, associated with HBV infection, were collected. The HBV S region was analyzed for genotype determination and, when available, the whole genome sequence was examined for mutations analysis. Genotype F was the most common genotype (87%). While the HBV subgenotype F3 was the most frequent genotype in the whole group of samples (44%), the subgenotype F2 predominated in HCC patients (56%). Mutations were more common in HCC and cirrhosis cases (p=0.01). The A1762T mutation was significantly associated with the advanced stage of liver disease (p=0.008). Additionally, mutations were more common in early stages of liver disease in HBV subgenotype F2- infected patients, and a significant association between this subgenotype and the emergence of T1753C, A1762T, A1762T/G1764A (p=0.04) and C1773T (p=0.001) mutations in chronic patients was found, when compared to the HBV subgenotype F3. By comparing F2 with all other HBV subgenotypes, a positive association for the three basal core promoter (BCP) mutants (A1762T, A1762T/G1764A p=0.01, G1764A p=0.04) was found. These results suggest that the HBV subgenotype F2 might be associated to more severe forms of liver disease in comparison with the HBV subgenotype F3.


Mundialmente, alrededor del 50% del cáncer de hígado se origina como consecuencia de la infección a largo plazo con el virus de la hepatitis B (VHB), y algunos genotipos y mutaciones han sido asociados con severidad incrementada de la infección. El objetivo de este estudio fue evaluar la diversidad genética del VHB en pacientes de Venezuela con infección crónica, cirrosis y carcinoma hepatocelular (CHC) y comparar la ocurrencia de mutaciones en los tres grupos de pacientes. Se reunieron muestras de pacientes con diferentes patologías de la enfermedad del hígado asociada a la infección por VHB. La región S del VHB fue analizada para la determinación del genotipo y cuando estuvo disponible, la secuencia del genoma completo fue examinada para análisis de mutaciones. El genotipo F de VHB fue el más frecuente (87%). Mientras que el F3 fue el subgenotipo más encontrado en el grupo completo de muestras (44%), el F2 fue predominante en pacientes con CHC (56%). Las mutaciones fueron más comunes en casos de pacientes con cirrosis y CHC (p=0,01). La mutación A1762T estuvo asociada significativamente con estado avanzado de la enfermedad del hígado (p=0,008). Adicionalmente, las mutaciones fueron más comunes en estados tempranos de la enfermedad del hígado en pacientes infectados con el subgenotipo F2, encontrándose una asociación significativa entre este subgenotipo y la ocurrencia de las mutaciones T1753C, A1762T, A1762T/ G1764A (p=0,04) y C1773T (p=0,001) en pacientes crónicos, en comparación con el subgenotipo F3. Por otro lado, al comparar F2 con los demás subgenotipos de VHB, se encontró una asociación positiva para las tres mutantes del promotor basal de la cápside (PBC) (A1762T, A1762T/G1764A p=0,01, G1764A p=0,04). Estos resultados sugieren que el subgenotipo F2 de VHB puede estar asociado a formas más severas de la enfermedad del hígado en comparación al subgenotipo F3.

ABSTRACT

This work analyzed the constitutive expression of the ß-Glucuronidase (GUS) reporter gene fused to three promoters: the cauliflower mosaic virus (CaMV) 35S, the chimerical A9 promoter which contains rice Act1, and the Ubiquitine-1 promoter from maize. The activity of the promoters was qualitative and quantitatively obtained in different tissues and various growth stages of rice plants (cv J-104) transformed by biolistic. All the promoters were found to be active, with distinct patterns of relative activity in leaves, stem and roots from in vitro and ex vitro plants, and in plants of T1 progeny. The chimerical A9 promoter increased significantly levels of GUS expression in all the tissues and at all growth stages of the plants.


Se analizó la expresión constitutiva del gen reportero de la ß-Glucuronidasa (GUS) fusionado a tres promotores: el 35S del virus del mosaico de la coliflor (CaMV), el promotor quimérico A9 que contiene la actina-1 de arroz y el promotor ubiquitina-1 de maíz. La actividad de los promotores fue analizada cualitativa y cuantitativamente en diferentes tejidos y estadíos de crecimiento de plantas de arroz (variedad J-104) transformadas mediante biobalística. Se demostró la expresión constitutiva de GUS bajo los promotores estudiados, con distintos patrones de actividad relativa en hojas, tallos y raíces de plantas in vitro y ex vitro, y en plantas de la progenie T1. Bajo el promotor quimérico A9 se lograron los mayores niveles de expresión GUS en todos los tejidos y fases de crecimiento de las plantas.

ABSTRACT

Se analizan las concepciones de salud de maestros como potenciales mediadores de pautas saludables en comunidades rurales desprotegidas. Se realizó un estudio de campo en 71 escuelas rurales del Departamento de Cruz del Eje, Córdoba, Argentina. Se aplicó una entrevista por cuestionario a la totalidad de los docentes y se realizaron entrevistas en profundidad a los docentes de una muestra de 8 escuelas, recuperándose las expresiones más significativas de los discursos. Se detectó que las concepciones de salud de los maestros están ligadas a lo curativo e intervienen como condicionantes, tanto de las conductas con que los maestros enfrentan sus propios procesos de salud-enfermedad, como en las acciones que realizan en sus roles de animadores socioculturales, lo que afecta la construcción de la escuela como centro promotor de salud. Los datos evidenciaron la necesidad de que los maestros reconceptualicen sus propias concepciones de salud y enfermedad, de modo que puedan contribuir a que las comunidades excluidas superen el aislamiento sociocultural al que se encuentran sometidas

ABSTRACT

Objetivou-se avaliar o efeito da adição de níveis crescentes de antibióticos associados ao farelo integral de pimenta rosa (FIPR) sobre o desempenho produtivo e morfometria intestinal de frangos corte. Utilizaram-se 528 pintos Cobb, machos, distribuídos em um delineamento inteiramente casualizado, com seis tratamentos e quatro repetições de 22 animais cada, constituído pelos grupos T1 - Controle Negativo (CN) - Dieta basal sem FIPR e sem antibióticos; T2 - Controle Positivo (CP) - Dieta Basal com 1,2% FIPR; T3 - CP + 11ppm bacitracina zinco e 17ppm salinomicina; T4 - CP + 22ppm bacitracina zinco e 34ppm salinomicina; T5 - CP + 33ppm bacitracina zinco e 51ppm salinomicina; T6 - CP + 45ppm bacitracina zinco e 67ppm salinomicina. No período de 1-43 dias de idade, observou-se que a adição de FIPR com ou sem antibiótico reduziu (P≤0,05) o consumo e melhorou a conversão alimentar, comparado com CN. Verificou-se que os frangos alimentados com FIPR associado aos antibióticos, em valores acima de 22mg kg-1 de bacitracina de zinco e 34mg kg-1 de salinomicina, tiveram maiores alturas de vilosidades intestinais que o CN (P≤0,05). O FIPR pode ser utilizado em substituição aos antibióticos sem queda de desempenho animal e com a manutenção da viabilidade e do fator de produção.


The aim of this research was to evaluate the effects of the increase levels of antibiotics associated with the pink pepper meal (PPM) on animal performance and intestinal morphometry of broilers jejunum. A total of 528 day-old male chicks, Cobb 500, distributed in a randomized design of six treatments and four replicates of 22 birds each: T1 - Negative Control (NC) - basal diet without PPM or antibiotics, T2 - Positive Control (PC) - basal diet with 1,2% PP; T3 - PC + 11ppm zinc bacitracin and 17ppm salinomycin, T4 - PC + 22ppm zinc bacitracin and 34ppm salinomycin, T5 - PC + 33ppm zinc bacitracin and 51ppm salinomycin, T6 - PC + 45ppm zinc bacitracin and 67ppm salinomycin. In period of 1-43 days-old, it was observed that the use of PPM with or without antibiotcs reduced feed intake and improved feed:gain ratio compared with NC (P≤0,05). It was observed that the broilers fed diet with antibiotics values of up to 22mg kg-1 of zinc bacitracin and 34mg kg-1 of salinomycin associated with the PPM had the higher villus height compared with NC. The PPM can be used to replace antibiotic growth promoters without decrease on animal performance, viability and production factor.

ABSTRACT

Los microARNs (miARNs) son pequeños ARN no codificantes que juegan un papel importante en el control de la expresión génica a través de la degradación de ARNm complementarios a su secuencia. La expresión de los miARNs es dependiente de la ARN polimerasa II como la mayoría de genes que codifican para proteínas. La regulación de la expresión de miARNs está bajo el control coordinado y combinatorio de factores de transcripción (FT). En este trabajo, se realizó una aproximación bioinformática para identificar sitios de unión de FT, TFBS (del inglés Transcription Factors Binding Sites) en regiones promotoras de genes miRNAs en 17 especies vegetales y se analizó el papel de algunos FT en defensa contra bacterias. Se encontró que nueve de las plantas analizadas presentaban diferencias significativas entre la distribución de TFBS presentes en los promotores de los miRNAs cuando se compara con los presentes en los genes codificantes de proteínas. En varios de los promotores de los miRNAs de yuca que son inducidos en respuesta a la infección por la bacteria Xanthomonas axonopodis pv. manihotis se identificaron elementos de unión como CCA1, T-box y SORLREP3, los cuales se presentan también en los genes que codifican proteínas implicadas en respuestas al ciclo circadiano y a la luz, sugiriendo que estos procesos y las respuestas inmunes en plantas pueden ser coordinados. En conjunto este trabajo aporta luces sobre los posibles mecanismos transcripcionales del control de la expresión génica de los miARNs.


MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are a group of small non coding RNAs involved in the control of gene expression through the degradation of mRNAs in a sequence specific manner. miRNAs expression is dependent on RNA polymerase II as most of the coding protein genes. The regulation of miRNAs expression is under the coordinated and combinatorial control of transcription factors (TFs). A bionformatic approach was carried out to identify transcription factor binding sites (TFBS) in the promoter of miRNAs genes in 17 different plant species and the possible involvement of TF in antibacterial response was analyzed. In nine of the plants studied significant differences in TFBS distribution in the promoter of miRNAs were observed when compare to the promoter of protein coding genes. TFBS as CCA1, T-box y SORLREP3 were present on the promoters of the cassava miRNAs induced in response to the infection by the bacteria Xanthomonas axonopodis pv. manihotis. These TFBS are also present in the promoter of genes coding for proteins involved in circadian rhythm and light responses, suggesting a crosstalk between these process and immune plant responses. Taken together, the results here described give insight about the transcriptional mechanisms involved in the expression of miRNAs.

ABSTRACT

Objetivo. Evaluar el efecto nutracéutico del polvo de hojas y retoños de Anacardium occidentale (AO) en dietas de pollitas ponedoras de remplazo. Materiales y métodos. Se utilizaron 240 pollitas White Leghorn (L-33) de un día de edad, que se ubicaron durante 35 días, según diseño completamente aleatorizado, con niveles de adición de 0, 0.5, 1.5 y 2.5% de polvo de hojas y retoños de Anacardium occidentale en las dietas. Se determinaron en las pollitas, los indicadores productivos, peso absoluto y relativo de los órganos inmunes, vísceras, accesorios e intestinos, la hipersensibilidad intestinal y la glucosa sérica. Resultados. El peso vivo final, consumo de alimento, peso del timo, bolsa de Fabricio y colon + recto en las aves con el tracto gastrointestinal vacío y lleno, fue favorable con la adición de 0.5% de polvo AO, con diferencias significativas (p≤0.05). El consumo acumulado, el consumo de polvo AO y taninos se incrementaron en las aves con la adición de 1.5 y 2.5% de polvo AO con respecto al control; no obstante los indicadores productivos para estos animales se deprimieron. La adición del polvo de AO, no deterioró el peso relativo de las vísceras (corazón, hígado y riñón) en las aves, además redujo la hipersensibilidad intestinal y la glucosa sérica. Conclusiones. La adición de 0.5% de polvo de hojas y retoños de AO como nutracéutico en las dietas de pollitas ponedoras de remplazo, mejoró los indicadores productivos y el peso de los órganos inmunes; además, la adición del polvo AO en las dietas disminuyó la hipersensibilidad intestinal y la glucosa sérica.


Objective. To assess the nutraceutical effect of powder from leaves and shoots of Anacardium occidentale (AO) in the diets of replacement laying pullets. Materials and methods. 240 day-old White Leghorn chicks (L-33), were placed for 35 days, according to a completely randomized design with addition levels of 0, 0.5, 1.5 and 2.5% of leaves and shoots powder of AO, in their diets. In the case of chicks, production indicators, absolute and relative weight of immune organs, viscera, innards and intestines, intestinal hypersensitivity and serum glucose were determined. Results. The final body weight, the cumulative feed intake, the weight of thymus, bursa of Fabricio, and colon + rectum with empty and full gastrointestinal tract in the birds, were favorable with the addition of 0.5 % of AO powder with significant difference between (p≤0.05). Cumulative intake, consumption of AO powder and tannins were increased in birds with 1.5 and 2.5% of AO powder compared to the control group; however, the production indicators for these animals were reduced. The addition of AO powder did not impair the relative weight of the viscera (heart, liver and kidney) in birds; also, the intestinal hypersensitivity and serum glucose were reduced. Conclusions. The addition of 0.5% of powder from leaves and shoots of AO as nutraceutical in diets for replacement pullets and laying hens, improved the productive indicators and weight of immune organs, plus the addition of three levels of dust in the diets, decreased intestinal hypersensitivity and serum glucose.

Introducción: Los polimorfismos indel en la región promotora y los polimorfismos de tamaño en el intrón 2 del gen transportador de serotonina se han asociado con el trastorno afectivo bipolar 1 (TAB 1) en diferentes poblaciones. El objetivo fue analizar las frecuencias genotípicas y alélicas en ambas regiones del gen en un estudio de casos y controles en Risaralda y Quindío (Colombia) para encontrar una asociación con TAB 1 y compararlas con estudios similares. Métodos: Se analizaron 133 pacientes y 120 controles. Con PCR se analizaron los polimorfismos indel L y S de la región promotora y los de tamaño (VNTR) STin 2.10 y STin 2.12 del segundo intrón del gen SLC6A4. Resultados: Las frecuencias genotípicas y alélicas en los polimorfismos S y L fueron muy similares en casos y controles. Sin embargo, el genotipo LL se encontró incrementado no significativamente en la población general con TAB 1 (OR=1,89; IC95%= 1,1-3,68) y al separarla por género. Los OR para este genotipo en la oblación general (OR=1,89; IC95%=1,1-3,68) en mujeres (OR=2,22; IC95%=1,04-5,66) y en hombres (OR=1,62; IC95%=0,71-4,39). En los polimorfismos VNTR STin 2.10 y STin2.212 tampoco se observaron diferencias significativas entre las frecuencias genotípicas y alélicas. Conclusiones: No encontramos asociación entre los polimorfismos de las regiones 5-HTTLPR y el intrón 2 del gen transportador de serotonina en los pacientes con TAB 1, ni en la población total, ni al separarla por género. Nuestros resultados son similares a los encontrados en poblaciones caucásicas y difieren de los encontrados en asiáticas y brasileras…


Introduction: The indel polymorphisms in the promoting region and the 2nd intron polymorphisms in the serotonin transporter gene (SLC6A4) have been associated to bipolar disorder 1 (BD1) in several population studies. The objective was to analyze the genotypic and allelic frequencies in both gene regions in a study of cases and controls with individuals from Risaralda and Quindío (Colombia) so as to establish possible associations to BD1, and compare results with previous and similar studies. Methods: 133 patients and 120 controls were studied. L and S indel polymorphisms in the promoting region were analyzed by PCR, together with VNTR STin2.10 and STin 2.12 VNTRs polymorphisms in the 2nd intron of the SLC6A4 gene Results: Genotypic and allelic frequencies for the S and L polymorphisms were similar both in cases and controls. However, the LL genotype was significantly increased both in BD1 population (OR=1.89; CI95%=1.1-3.68), and when discriminated by gender. This particular genotype in general population is OR=2.22; IC95%=1.04-5.66 for women, and OR=1.62; IC 95%=0.71-4.39 for men. No significant genotypic and allelic differences were found for VNTR STin2.10 and STin 2.12. polymorphisms. Conclusions: No association was found between polymorphisms of 5-HTTLPR polymorphisms and the 2nd intron of the serotonin ransporting gene in general patients with BD1, nor when compared by gender. Our results are similar to those reported for Caucasian populations and differ from those of Asian and Brazilian populations…

Objetivou-se avaliar dietas contendo mananoligossacarídeos (MOS) como aditivo alternativo aos promotores de crescimento por meio do estudo da morfometria do intestino e do desempenho de frangos de corte. Para tanto, 1280 pintos de corte foram distribuídos em delineamento inteiramente casualizado com quatro tratamentos (controle negativo, CN: dieta isenta de antibiótico; controle positivo, CP: dieta contendo antibiótico e duas dietas, MOS 1 e MOS 2, nas quais foram adicionadas ao CN duas fontes distintas de MOS) e oito repetições, sendo a unidade experimental composta por 40 aves. Para submeter as aves ao desafio sanitário, foi formulada uma dieta basal com milho, farelo de soja e farinha de carne e ossos. Adotou-se cama reutilizada, limpeza dos bebedouros duas vezes por semana e oferta semanal de água contaminada com cama. Foram avaliadas altura de vilo e profundidade de cripta do duodeno, jejuno e íleo, consumo da dieta, peso médio, ganho de peso e conversão alimentar das aves. Houve melhora na profundidade de cripta no jejuno e na altura de vilo no íleo das aves alimentadas com dietas contendo MOS. A adição de MOS, independente da fonte, resultou em melhor conversão alimentar em relação às aves do CN, sendo similares às aves do CP. Os mananoligossacarídeos podem ser utilizados como aditivo alternativo aos promotores de crescimento em dietas para frangos de corte, porém, dependendo da fonte, esta pode acarretar em pequenas diferenças no desempenho das aves.


This study aimed to evaluate mannan oligosaccharides (MOS) as an alternative additive to growth promoters in broiler diets by studying the morphology of the intestine and the performance. For this purpose, 1280 broiler chicks were distributed in a completely randomized design with four treatments (negative control, NC: diet free of antibiotics; positive control, PC: diet with antibiotic and two diets, MOS 1 and MOS 2, in which were added to NC two distinct sources of MOS) and eight repetitions, and the experimental unit consisted of 40 birds. To submit birds to the challenge, a basal diet was formulated with corn, soybean meal and meat and bones meal, was adopted used litter, cleaning of water troughs twice a week and were offered weekly water contaminated with litter. The variables evaluated were villus height and crypt depth of duodenum, jejunum and ileum, feed intake, weight, body weight gain and feed conversion ratio. There was improvement in crypt depth in jejunum and in villus height in ileum of birds fed diets containing MOS. The addition of MOS, regardless of source, resulted in improvement in feed conversion ratio than birds of NC, and were similar to the birds of PC. The mannan oligosaccharides can be used as an alternative additive to growth promoters in diets for broiler chickens, but depending on the source, this can result in small differences in bird performance.

Introducción: El estilo de vida es un aspecto de la actividad vital de la persona y contribuye a desarrollar factores de riesgo para diferentes enfermedades. En la población adulta mexicana, la alta prevalencia de sobrepeso y obesidad coloca a este grupo etario en situaciones de riesgo relacionadas a enfermedades cardiovasculares. Objetivo: Determinar los factores de riesgo cardiovascular (FRCV) y su asociación con el estilo de vida promotor de salud (EVPS) en adultos sanos. Material y métodos: Estudio descriptivo, transversal; con una muestra de 160 hombres y mujeres de 20 a 59 años. Se realizó medición de presión arterial y antropométrica para determinar el índice de masa corporal, se tomaron muestras sanguíneas para determinación de glucosa y colesterol. El estilo de vida promotor de salud se midió con el cuestionario perfil de estilo de vida promotor de salud II (PEPS-II). Los datos fueron analizados con estadística descriptiva y modelos de regresión lineal múltiple. Resultados: Los FRCV identificados fueron obesidad 64.4%, hiperglucemia 35%, hipercolesterolemia 7.5% y presión arterial normal alta 4.4%. El perfil de estilo de vida promotor de salud fue bajo (media = 49.6 ± 13.86). Los factores personales biológicos mostraron efecto sobre el EVPS (F (3,156) = 3.856, p = .011), explicando el 5.1% de la varianza (R2 ajustada = .051). Conclusiones: Los factores de riesgo en la población estudiada fueron obesidad e hiperglucemia que pueden explicarse por la baja percepción que se tiene de la relación del estilo de vida con el riesgo para la salud.


Introduction: Lifestyle is an aspect of a person’s vital activity and contributes to the development of risk factors for different illnesses. In the adult Mexican population, the high prevalence of over-weight and obesity places this group in situations of risk related to cardiovascular illnesses. Objective: To determine cardiovascular risk factors (CVRF) and their association with Health promoting lifestyle (HPLS) in healthy adults. Material and methods: Cross-sectional descriptive study; with a sample made up of 160 men and women between 20 and 59 years of age. Blood pressure and anthropometrical readings were carried out to determine the body mass index, blood samples were taken in order to ascertain glucose and cholesterol levels. Health promoting lifestyles which promote health were measured using the Profile for Lifestyles which Promote Health II (PLPH-II). The information was analyzed utilizing descriptive statistics and multiple lineal regression models. Results: The CVRF identified were obesity 64.4%, hyperglycemia 35%, hypercholesterolemia 7.5% and normal high blood pressure 4.4%. The profile for lifestyles which promote health was low (average = 49.6 ± 13.86). Personal biological factors were shown to affect the HPLS (F (3,156) = 3.856, p = .011), explaining the 5.1% variance (R2 adjusted = .051).Conclusions: Risk factors in the population studied were obesity and hyperglycemia which may be explained by the low perception which these have in relation to a lifestyle that risks health.

Objetivou-se avaliar os efeitos da inclusão de óleo essencial de aroeira-vermelha (Schinus terebinthifolius Raddi) como promotor de crescimento nas rações de frangos de corte sobre o desempenho e morfometria intestinal desses animais. Foram utilizados 300 pintos de um dia de vida, tipo corte, machos, linhagem Cobb. As aves foram alojadas em 20 boxes de 2m² (15 aves boxe-1), distribuídos em um delineamento inteiramente casualizado, em grupos de quatro (4) tratamentos e cinco (5) repetições, com 15 aves cada. Os grupos foram identificados como T1: dieta sem promotor de crescimento e sem óleo de aroeira-vermelha (controle negativo); T2: dieta com promotor de crescimento e sem óleo de aroeira (antimicrobiano e anticoccidiano - controle positivo); T3: dieta contendo somente antimicrobiano (bacitracina de zinco); T4: dieta com 0,4 por cento de óleo de aroeira-vermelha. Não houve efeito significativo dos tratamentos sobre o desempenho animal (P>0,05). Contudo, quanto aos aspectos morfométricos dos intestinos verificou-se que, aos 21 dias de idade, os animais tratados com promotor de crescimento apresentaram maior relação vilo:cripta, que não diferiu dos tratados com 0,4 por cento de óleo de aroeira-vermelha (P>0,05). As aves arraçoadas com uma dieta sem promotor de crescimento (sem antibiótico e anticoccidiano) tiveram a menor relação vilo:cripta (P<0,05). A adição de óleo de aroeira-vermelha na dieta de frangos de corte reduziu o peso relativo dos intestinos quando comparado com a dieta sem promotor de crescimento (P<0,05), não diferindo dos tratados com promotor de crescimento (P>0,05). Neste estudo, não houve diferença significativa na profundidade das criptas de Lieberkühn e na altura das vilosidades entre os tratamentos (P>0,05). Concluiu-se que a adição de 0,4 por cento de óleo de aroeira promoveu uma melhoria na superfície absortiva intestinal das aves, quando comparado com as aves alimentadas sem promotor de crescimento.


The aim was to evaluate the effect of inclusion of Brazilian red pepper oil (Schinus terebinthifolius Raddi), as an additive in feed on performance and intestinal morphometry of broilers. A total of 300 day-old male chicks, Cobb, distributed in a randomized design in groups of four (4) treatments and five repetitions, with 15 birds each: diet without growth promoter and without Brazilian red pepper oil (negative control); diet with growth promoter (antimicrobial and anticoccidial - positive control); diet containing only antimicrobial (bacitracin zinc); diet with 0.4 percent of Brazilian red pepper oil. It was not verified significantly dietary effects on the performance of birds (P>0.05). At 21 days of age, the broilers chicks fed with growth promoter showed greater ratio of villous:crypt which not differs from chickens fed with 0.4 percent Brazilian red pepper oil (P<0.05). The diet without growth promoter resulted in the lowest ratio of villous:crypt (P<0.05). The addition of Brazilian red pepper in the diet of broiler chickens reduced the relative weight of the intestines compared to broilers fed diet without growth promoter (P<0.05). In this study there was no significant difference in crypt depth and in villous height between treatments (P> 0.05). It was concluded that the addition of 0.4 percent Brazilian red pepper oil resulted an improvement in intestinal absorptive surface of broilers compared with chickens fed with diet without growth promoter.

La producción de carne para el consumo humano es uno de los renglones importantes dentro de la economía de un país, tiene una gran importancia socioeconómica ya que sirve como base para el desarrollo, generación de empleo y sostenibilidad. La demanda de proteína de origen animal es uno de los elementos más preciados y necesarios para mantener el adecuado desarrollo biológico de los seres humanos en crecimiento así como fuente de renovación de los tejidos. Este consumo ha aumentado porque las poblaciones y las migraciones hacia las ciudades crecen día tras día, lo cual genera que la oferta se torne insuficiente y se requiera acelerar, tecnificar y mejorar el proceso productivo de la carne. También se busca una disminución en los costos productivos por parte de los productores de este sector de la economía, lo que lleva a la utilización e incorporación de tecnología y de conocimientos de vanguardia con el fin de mejorar el rendimiento en la producción de carne; dentro de los nuevos conceptos se ha incorporado el conocimiento científico sobre crecimiento y desarrollo, trasladándolo al campo de la producción animal, lo que ha implicado el uso de hormonas y promotores del crecimiento (esteroides anabolizantes y otros), como fuentes para acelerar e incrementar la producción. Si bien es cierto, se ha logrado un incremento en la producción, los residuos de las sustancias usadas pueden quedar en la carne que se destina para el consumo humano y pueden generar alteraciones en el estado de salud de quienes la consumen.


The production of meat for human consumption is one of the important items in the economy of a country. This activity has great socio economic importance as it serves as a basis for development, employment generation and sustainability of a country. The demand for animal protein is one of the most precious and necessary factors to maintain a proper biological development of human beings in active growth as well as being a source of growth and tissue regeneration. Consumption has increased because populations continue to grow and there is continuous migration to the cities, which makes the offer insufficient, and therefore it is necessary to accelerate, introduce technology and improve the meat production process. Industry also seeks a reduction in production costs by producers in this sector of the economy, leading to the use and incorporation of technology and cutting-edge knowledge to improve yield production of meat. Such knowledge comprises the scientific basis of the use of growth hormones and promoters (anabolic steroids and others) to accelerate and increase the production of meat. Although there has been an increase in production, residual substances can remain in the meat intended for human consumption which can lead to changes in the health of consumers.


A produção de carne para consumo humano é um dos itens mais importantes na economia de um país, tem grande importância socioeconômica, uma vez que serve como base para o desenvolvimento, geração de emprego e sustentabilidade. A demanda por proteína animal é um dos elementos mais preciosos e necessários para manter o adequado desenvolvimento biológico dos seres humanos em crescimento; assim como, fonte de regeneração de tecidos. Este consumo tem aumentado porque as populações e as migrações para as cidades estão crescendo dia a dia, o que gera a oferta tornar-se insuficiente e seja necessário acelerar, tecnificar e melhorar o processo de produção de carne. Também se procura uma redução dos custos de produção pelos produtores desse setor da economia, levando à utilização e incorporação de tecnologia e de conhecimentos de vanguarda para melhorar o desempenho na produção de carne; dentro dos novos conceitos tem se incorporado o conhecimento científico sobre o crescimento e desenvolvimento, transferido para o campo da produção animal, que tem envolvido o uso de hormônios e promotores de crescimento (esteróides anabolizantes e outros), como fonte para acelerar e aumentar a produção. Embora, tenha havido um aumento na produção, os resíduos das substâncias usadas podem ficar na carne destinada ao consumo humano e podem levar a mudanças na saúde de quem consome.

ABSTRACT

This study evaluated a phytogenic feed additive for broiler chickens. A total of 1,632 broiler chicks were distributed into four treatments: negative control (without growth promoter); positive control (avilamycine, 10ppm + colistin, 15ppm); and two alternative treatments with 150ppm of phytogenic additive, one with a reduced Ca and P levels diet (PA-R1) and the other with lower energy, and amino acids, besides Ca and P (PA-R2). The trial was conducted with 12 replicates, each consisted of a pen with 34 birds. The alternative diets showed body weight intermediate to the two controls at 42 days, with no significant (P>0.05) treatment effect on feed conversion ratio. No treatment differences (P>0.05) on carcass yield and composition was observed. There was a tendency of abdominal fat lipids saturation, when the phytogenic additive was used, as possible consequence of a decreased level of soybean oil in the diets. A difference (P<0.001) on ingredient consumption profile was observed between the treatments. All together, this study showed a possibility to reduce the cost of total feed used to produce a broilers or a ton of body weight by the utilization of the tested phytogenic additive.


O objetivo neste estudo foi avaliar a utilização de um aditivo fitogênico na dieta de frangos de corte. Um total de 1632 aves foram distribuídas em quatro tratamentos: controle negativo (sem antibiótico promotor de crescimento; controle positivo (com avilamicina, 100ppm + colistina, 15ppm), e dois tratamentos alternativos com 150ppm do aditivo fitogênico, um com níveis de Ca e P reduzidos (PA-R1) e outro também com menores níveis de energia e aminoácidos (PA-R2). O experimento foi conduzido com 12 repetições, cada uma delas com 34 aves. As aves submetidas às dietas alternativas apresentaram peso corporal médio, intermediário aos tratamentos de controle, aos 42 dias de idade, não se observando efeito significativo (P>0,05) na conversão alimentar. Nenhuma diferença (P>0,05) foi observada no rendimento e na composição centesimal da carcaça. Com adição do aditivo fitogênico, verificou-se aumento da saturação dos lipídios da gordura abdominal, possivelmente, devido à menor inclusão de óleo de soja em tais dietas. Houve diferença significativa (P<0,001) no consumo de ingredientes entre os tratamentos. O conjunto dos dados mostrou que a utilização do aditivo fitogênico possibilita a redução do custo da ração necessária para produzir um frango ou uma tonelada de peso vivo.

O experimento foi conduzido com 210 leitões desmamados, afim de avaliar os efeitos da adição de frutooligosacarídeos (FOS) ou olaquindox nas rações sobre o desempenho dos 21 aos 63 dias de idade. Utilizou-se programa de alimentação por fases (pré-inicial, inicial-I e inicial-II, de zero aos 16, 17 aos 30 e dos 31 aos 42 dias, respectivamente). O delineamento foi de blocos ao acaso, seis tratamentos e sete repetições de cinco leitões cada: T1 - sem adição de FOS; T2 - com 0,1 por cento de FOS; T3 - com 0,2 por cento de FOS; T4 - com 0,3 por cento de FOS; T5 - com 0,5 por cento de FOS e T6 - sem FOS e 25ppm de olaquindox. A adição de FOS não afetou o consumo e o ganho diário de peso nas diferentes fases estudadas. Contudo, verificou-se melhor desempenho dos leitões que receberam olaquindox comparado à média dos demais tratamentos. Ao contrário do olaquindox, a adição de FOS foi ineficiente em promover melhora no desempenho.


The experiment was performed with 210 weaned pigs to evaluate the effects of fructooligosacharides (FOS) and olaquindox supplementation to the diet on their performance from 21 to 63 days of age. Feed program was pre-starter, starter I and starter II diets, 0 to16, 17 to 30 and 31 to 42 days, respectively. The experimental design was a randomized blocks with six treatments and seven repetitions of five each: T1 - without FOS; T2 - with 0.1 percent FOS; T3 - with 0.2 percent FOS; T4 - with 0.3 percent FOS; T5 - with 0.5 percent FOS and T6 - without FOS and 25 ppm olaquindox. Fructooligosacarides supplementation to the diet did not affect the daily consumption and daily weight gain in any of the different periods tested. However, improved performance was observed in pigs treated with olaquindox in comparison to FOS treated pigs. In conclusion, FOS supplementation was inefficient in improving pigs performance, contrasting with results for aloquindox supplementation.

A avicultura nacional tem sofrido constantes desafios, tendo como objetivo ampliar o mercado consumidor do frango de corte ao redor do mundo. Cada mercado apresenta exigências diferentes, como no caso do mercado europeu que estabelece a exclusão dos antibióticos como promotores de crescimento na alimentação dos frangos. Em função deste fato, realizou-se este estudo, com o objetivo de avaliar o uso dos ácidos lático e butírico, isolados e associados, como aditivos em dietas de frangos de corte, em relação ao promotor de crescimento usualmente utilizado nas dietas dos mesmos. Foram avaliados o desempenho e a morfometria intestinal das aves. Utilizaram-se 1400 pintinhos machos da linhagem comercial Ross, divididos em cinco tratamentos (controle - sem aditivo; com adição de ácido butírico; com adição de ácido lático; com adição de ácido butírico+ ácido láctico; com adição do antibiótico avilamicina, promotor de crescimento tradicionalmente utilizado na criação de frangos de corte. Os resultados de desempenho indicaram que a interação dos ácidos foi significativa na fase inicial, entretanto não ocorreu um efeito aditivo dos ácidos, sendo o uso do ácido butírico mais recomendável durante essa fase. Já na fase de crescimento, a interação foi significativa com um efeito aditivo, recomendando seu uso nas rações de crescimento. Os resultados obtidos nas analises de morfometria intestinal não foram conclusivos. Em termos gerais, requerem-se mais estudos quanto ao uso dos ácidos orgânicos como promotores de crescimento.


During the last years, the national poultry keeping has suffered constant challenges, having as objective to diversify the consuming market of the broiler to around of the world. However, each market presents different requirements, as in the case of the European market that establishes the exclusion of antibiotics as promotional of growth in the feeding of the broilers. Aiming at this problematic one, this study was become fullfilled, with the objective to analyze the results of the association of the butyric and lactic acids as additives in the ration of broilers, in comparison to the results gotten for the usually used promoters of growth in the diets of broilers. They had been evaluated: the animal performance, humoral immunology and intestinal morfometric of the birds. 1400 male chickens of the commercial ancestry Ross had been used, dividing them in five groups with different treatments to that if it relates to the additive use. Being a group it has controlled absent of additive, a group with butyric acid, a group with lactic acid, the fourth group with the association of butyric and lactic acids, and the fifth group with avilamicina (antibiotic) as promotional of traditionally used growth in the production of broilers. The performance results had indicated that the interaction of acid ones was significant in the initial phase, mean while did not occur an additive effect of acid ones, being the use of the butyric acid separately more recommendable during this phase. Already in the growth phase, the interaction was significant with an additive effect, recommending its use in the rations of growth. In accordance with the average headings of antibodies gotten in the study, the interaction was significant in the third sampling and showed a synergic effect of acid ones, being the combination of acids in question a powerful modulator of the humoral immunity. Meanwhile, the results gotten in the analyses of intestinal morfometric had not been conclusive. In general terms, one requires more organic acid studies that confirm the use of as the promotional ones of growth.
